250 Years of USA: Public Lectures on the Future of Democracy

What is the score of American democracy 250 years after independence? A public lecture series by the University of Basel's European Institute, which takes place in collaboration with the Democracy Foundation Basel, is dedicated to this question. To kick off in October, two events await you:

October 7, 2026: Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein — “Law and Decency”
The former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and current President of the International Peace Institute wants to open the public guest lectures.

October 14, 2026: Leslie Vinjamuri — America's political tensions and their global consequences
The President of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and Professor at SOAS University of London sheds light on the international impact of domestic policy developments in the USA.

Both lectures are held by 6:15pm to 8:00pm in the auditorium of the Kollegienhaus of the University of Basel Instead of. The presentation language is English. Information about time and place.
