On the ground in Romania: strengthening local civil society

The Democracy Foundation Basel was recently in Romania to visit partner organizations and get a direct picture of their work. Local exchanges confirm the high relevance of local initiatives for a lively, resilient democracy.

In Radauti Gets involved Rădăuțiul Civic with educational opportunities, dialogue formats and concrete support for the community. The involvement of young people and the focus on critical thinking and constructive exchange are particularly visible.

That Făgăraș Research Institute Combines research with local engagement. Through joint projects, educational formats and the creation of meeting spaces, it strengthens trust and cooperation within the population.

The organization Cere-R Civil Society promotes engagement across the country by supporting, networking and providing access to resources for smaller initiatives. One Focus is on Training and Accompanying Community Organizers.

The trip underlines that sustainable democracy promotion takes place where local people assume responsibility and develop solutions together.
